about

This is it. The Hermanos Patchekos' "White Album". Okay, actually rather latte machiatto colours, but nevertheless. This band makes people happy because they are happy. From the vibraphone prelude (yeah, new instrument) by Jolie Holland's 'Morphine' to the final guitar attack of 'Camera', and with more brass than ever, Lucky Goddamn has undoubtedly become a damn good record.

With Lucky Goddamn, G.RAG Y LOS HERMANOS PATCHEKOS present their wonderfully instrumented new longplayer after two highly praised and Adolf Grimme Prize nominated soundtrack albums for Franz Xaver Bogner's cult series München 7. On the 14 tracks, the eleven-piece formation plays its very own mixture of Latin, folk, swing and tango and more than lives up to its reputation as the 'Carribean Trash Orchestra'. It is incomparable how they excellently combine this mixture of styles with Bavarian folklore and indie/pop. The brass section, which has now been increased to four members, enriches the band with a very relaxed and atmospherically perceptible lightness. The instruments are trumpet, tenor horn, clarinet, banjo, lapsteel, guitars, swinging percussion sound and drums, this time enriched by vibraphone.

"At the moment the best country music comes from the Bavarian hillbilly highlands. If that sometimes sounds like Tom Waits (as in the title "Morphine") then that is intentional. The Munich record dealer Andreas Staebler has a troupe that listens to such paradoxical names as Karate Joey Saufenfucker (double bass) or Senor DellaNowosad (percussion, melodica). The third album also poaches diligently in Bavarian Folk, as the "Föhnlandler" or "Kriegersabschied" prove. They all love Bavarian brass music. Here and there a bit of Cuba and swing - and the tasteful potpourri is ready. Woody Guthrie is also in high favour with the Bavarians. His "Pretty Boy Floyd" makes the horse snap and the hobos rejoice. "Lucky Goddamn" is a hit.
